December 12 - 13, 2009

Parlour is pleased to present its eleventh exhibition, When All Through the House, which features short video works by eleven contemporary artists selected from the open call that Parlour hosted this autumn. The show’s title invokes the first couple of lines from Clement Clarke Moore’s The Night Before Christmas: “Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house/ Not a Creature was stirring, not even a mouse.” In Parlour’s rendition, however, everything is stirring; The works will be installed throughout an old, ivy-covered mansion, pervading the space and creating a dynamic experience for the viewer. Featured artists include: Colleen Asper, Orit Ben-Shirit, Filipe Bessa, Amanda Friedman, Elizabeth Hirsch, Harold Moss, Matthew Newton, Lars Ramussen, Adam Shecter, Mary-Ruth Walsh and Simon Woolham. Parlour No. 11 is hosted in Bushwich by Cedar House, a group of nine renaissance men and women who work in various creative industries.

Parlour No. 10, Between The Acts, is curated by Jennifer Dudley and features the work of Lara Allen, Timothy Hull, Selena Kimball, Mary Reid Kelley, Jessica Slaven, Spirit Tours and Steven Thompson. The works presented in this evening of domestic theater pause on the threshold between deception and revelation by performing transformative illusions, while simultaneously conceding the methods by which those illusions are sustained. Messages from the past are transmitted, the future is divined, secrets are confessed, and perceptions are contradicted as the viewer is cast as both participant and spectator.
Between The Acts will be hosted by Megha Gupta, Alison Duffy and Robert Rhee in their Brooklyn home.

Parlour No. 9, Open Season, features the work of <a href='http://www.beaubuckart.com/'target="_blank">Beau Buck, <a href='http://www.sminz.com/'target="_blank">Stefano Minzi, <a href='http://emilyroz.com/'target="_blank">Emily Roz and <a href='http://www.nataliayovane.com'target="_blank">Natalia Yovane, which ranges from painting and drawing to prints and film that depict wildlife in both natural and displaced settings. The show's installation draws inspiration from old hunting trophy rooms, with their taxidermy, paintings of the chase, etc. However, in Parlour's vision, these animals are not static monuments, but are rather unleashed participants in an uncontainable environment. Open Season is hosted by Colette Robbins and Micah Ganske in their Queens apartment.

September 26 - 27, 2009

Wild Flowers, Parlour No. 8, is an exhibition set on a rooftop terrace overlooking the Lower East Side. The exhibition brings together a group of talented young artists, whose diverse practices have created a broad range of sculptural works that vary in material, color, shape, scale and construction, resulting in a wild flower sculpture garden. Though unique in their starting point, each piece naturally unites with the rest to form a cohesive tapestry. They are organic entities that invade and overcome the space, highlighting the beauty of quotidian forms, growing and sprawling before our eyes, evolving into new forms while feeding upon the existing ones. Participating artists include Corey D’Augustine, Langdon Graves, Nathan Gwynne, Todd Knopke, Ryan O'Connor,

Parlour is excited to announce its seventh exhibition, Golden Girls. The show will feature figurative paintings by artists Alison Blickle and Megan Burns, both of whom create fantastic environments in which their alter egos frolic freely, explore their sexuality and attempt to connect to something greater than the constructed world around them. By confronting their own fantasies, the artists are not only able to find their own personal freedom—psychological, social, political, etc.—but also jumpstart the viewer’s. Golden Girls is generously hosted by Lizzie Stein in her Upper East Side apartment.

Parlour No. 5 presents Life Goes On, a show of still life objects by Lane Arthur, Colleen Asper, Jennifer Dudley, Evie Falci, Rashawn Griffin, Dave Hardy, Chip Hughes, Hein Koh, Ted Mineo, Dane Nester, Kyle Smith, and Andrzej Zielinski. The objects represented in Life Goes On are quotidian. A wine bottle, a cellphone, a birthday cake—the static population of a home. Within the context of Parlour these works are camouflaged, nestled within an environment of concurrent objects.

November 22 - 23, 2008

Parlour is pleased to present its second exhibition, Through the Looking Glass, featuring works by Yasmin Chatila and Collin LaFleche, hosted in the home of Alexander Baxter. Through the Looking Glass explores the intimacy of human experience and interaction, creating a tapestry of human existence from both insider and outsider perspectives. In the presented works, lives are shaped and personalities are formed, and through the camera’s lens, we see a reflection of ourselves played out in the lives of others.
